The clicksmatrix site
rotator is a script, that you install on a hosting account. The script rotates
as many sites as you want, one after another.
Each time you click on the URL you us, for your rotator page ( normally
- index.php), a different site is shown, according to whichever sites you
have added to your rotator.
There is also a password protected admin, which you define the username and
password for, and you simply add your sites to it,following the instructions
given.
The clicksmatrix site rotator is free, but we do not host it for you, or
provide support, as it is a free script.
We also do not host our logo, or any banners, or anything on the page,
as it is a genuine freebee !
We are able to provide limited support to members when you install the script,
but if you are a webmaster it is a fairly straight forward process.
You must have an FTP program to install the script and set CHMOD settings..
FTPPRO is a nice easy to us FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL(FTP) program and you can
download an evaluation copy
here...FTPPRO.
After you edit the files and upload them (using FTP), the MOST important thing to
get right
are each files "CHMOD". We will take a look at some of the FPTPRO screens showing
how to do that in more detail.
First RIGHT CLICK on the file you want to CHMOD as follows ...
Selecting "properties" brings up the following screen ...
Set each files CHMODS as follows ...
(This part is repeated on the download page and in the zipped
file)
The properties show the USER, GROUP and WORLD file access permissions, in that order.
Each is assigned 3 variables (READ/WRITE/EXECUTE) which are either CHECKED or NOT CHECKED. (They are either ticked or not)
Let us take a closer look at the permissions the FTP program is showing us.
USER permissions ....
... read has a value of 4, write has a value of 2, and execute has a value of 1.
The reason they are assigned these values is simply that adding any 2 together always gives a unique number, which can only be arrived at once. So as the settings for USER are all ticked, we see the first number is 7, the next 2 numbers relate to the GROUP and WORLD as follows ....
Looking back at our settings we see the results. Do not be afraid to experimint. You are only setting a file permission, so will not break your site or the server.
Just make sure the world can read the page - or only you and your group will be able to ! It litterally means what it says - USER is you, Group is your group, world is anyone in the world. (Server, and page protocols override these of course - but only if you set them to limit parts of the world yourself.)
Here we see the results in another FORMAT. This is important as you will often be given a number of a series of letters by webmasters of sites when you buy scripts.
It is worth noting the following ...
- Images are uploaded by default in BINARY format by FTP programs.
- Nearly all other files are uploaded as ASCII.
Mo<
You will rarely need to make manual adjustments, but there are always exceptions to any rules of course.
Permissions are ALWAYS set by the program whilst uploading. Most FTP upload programs set permissions to 644, so everyone can read (4) but only you can read and write (6). Sometimes you need a file to also EXECUTE, hence the manual changes.
You can also change the permissions for an entire directory, by right clicking on that in the same way. This affect EVERY files in that directory, so only do it in the right order, if you need to. Normally you do not need to as directories are set to 644.
Once you have set the CHMOD's to the correct values, you should be able to login to your
admin.
Simply follow the instructions shown here and on the download page and you
should
not have any problem. If you do please contact members support and we will
try to help.
